All drained out

August 1st, 2007 by marshamaung

Frankly speaking, today I am completely drained out! Joshua is having his exam and I have been poking at the chinese electronic dictionary all day! Feel like I am in standard 1 all over again - this time in a Chinese medium school. It’s really no fun and I’ll come right out and admit it….YES, I sometimes pity the poor guy that I do his homework for him. I know I shouldn’t but you should see him cracking his knuckles after 45 minutes of non-stop writing. Try writing for 45 minutes and see if your fingers ache or not?

What is your favorite food in your state or country?

August 1st, 2007 by marshamaung

I got tagged by Mamasbagoftricks a LLLOOONNNGGGG time ago and procrastinated like nothing else but this is an interesting tag because I am on a very strict diet right now, so, this should test my resistance towards awesome local food. I tell you, as far as food is concerned, Penang Island is my H.E.A.V.E.N. I go Penang and I end up breaking every single rule about proper nutrition, health, balanced diet…blah blah blah. Penang rocks!

And I have a couple of favorite local food…and they’re all from Penang! Hee hee hee…. There’s the ‘har kow chee cheong farn’ which is nothing but chee-cheong-farn with prawn paste on top! Totally unappetizing for foreigners, I suspect but to me, it’s a simple non-fatterning food (I think)! The strong ’stench’ from the prawn paste can be a big turn-off for the unassuming.

Then there’s the Penang Asam Laksa! You ain’t tasted Asam Laksa the way it should be until you’ve eaten one in a Penang stall! Sure, we have a lot of stalls here promising us Penang-flavored Asam Laksa but no way, man. None of them comes close!

Penang Prawn Mee

And my favorite food in the world, bar none, is….the PRAWN MEE! It’s no cuisine but I tell you, give me Penang Prawn Mee and I am totally yours!

My 2007 birthday countdown

July 30th, 2007 by marshamaung

I celebrated albeit countdown my birthday on Sunday night in Sanctuary (where else!) and despite having to go to work the next day, they came. I would like to thank those who came for coming. Some of them had ’splendid Mondays’ thereafter complete with eye-bags, huge hangovers and unexplainable stench resembling overnight beer.

The day started off great with a little mall-crawling and free lunch (free because she paid @ birthday present) with Samantha who lives opposite my condo who is also the manageress of the music school me and my kids attend. She’s been really great, so, thanks Samantha for consistently reminding me that I will be 3++++ only once in this life.

Many photos are featured here but there are lots more here if you’re into camwhoring stuff!

Samantha and Me

Dave, Samantha and Me. Dave is one of the guitar-teachers in the music school that Samantha works in. I tried to help him fix a transformers toy before. AND FAILED!!!

Dinner was great cause it was a record-breaking dinner. Usually, our family birthday dinners are always very low-key. No cake no nothing, just simple dishes resembling a picnic. But then this time, we had a record-breaking number of dishes and I love all the dishes too! So, me and my sister skipped the rice and ate the Kangkung Belacan like fried noodles (My family love kangkung belacan, actually. it’s staple diet during younger days). We have very Penang preference wan. So, we habis everything on the table. I was itching to use my new phone. Hee hee hee….

My family gave me a new Samsung (something-something model) as a present. I’ve been looking for a new phone lately and asked my sister, Karen, about which model is best (she is in the mobile industry and deals with Samsung a lot….which is my unexplainable {Korean-lah. where got unexplainable????] fave phone brands). She picked up the clue and bought one for birthday. I was TTTTTHHHHIIIIISSSSSS close to buying one on Friday….a cheaper model, actually. But heck, happy like a lark! Free new phone!!!!!!!! Yippeeee!!! Not like anything is wrong with my HP iPaq but the speaker quite cher-kai and cannot play song loud enough to hear. But damn good organizer. This new Samsung will definitely make my life complete.

People I’ve never met and people I have not seen for a long time came and it was special to me. Especially my dear cousin who is a loyal visitor of this blog whom I’ve not seen for an obscene  of years, Jamie. And his brother, Jorgie who brought his lovely girlfriend for us to meet. It was sort of a family gathering, really. My brother who was posted to JB for some years finally gets to celebrate a family member’s birthday without having to drive for hundreds of miles. Ann, my cousin was also there.

Siblings UNITE!! Karen, Damien and Me. It’s rare to get pictures of us three siblings together these days. My brother handsome or not? My sister pretty or not. I am going to do a little pimping, they’re both available, so, please go to contact page for more info. -) Sorry, couldn’t help myself.

I just love this picture!! Karen (younger sis), Me, Ann (cousin) and Cynthia (long-time friend of everyone!)

Jamie and me. The only family member who also blogs. Thank you, cuz….for being the first to be there, for coming, for just being you, you know.

Me, Jorgie and his gorgeous girlfriend, Lisa

Jennsen, Me and Damien. It feels good to be squished between two good-looking blokes! -)

Of course, even when I’ve quit True Fitness because I no longer have the time to go gym, my gym friends all still came. And I am really quite happy about that as well. Another surprise was that Kat and her dear husband came!! I was like….OMG! I sms-ed her late in the evening because I forgot to call her earlier and didn’t expect her to turn up. But yes wor….she came wor. We were supposed to meet up for Korean BBQ (because of my fascination with everything Korean) a lot of times already but because of time constraints, it never happened. It was a real surprise and pleasure to have finally met her….and her husband as well! Thank you, Kat!

Richard, Me and Danny. My very dear friends from gym

Kamen and Me. Another very dear gym friend!

Kat came!!! She actually came!

Rocking with Richard

The night started out slow but picked up towards midnight. And I gulped down the flaming Lamborghini, I realize that I am one year older, one year wiser. One year closer to closing shop. Of course, with that in mind, habis-habis wine lah, beer lah, vodka lah, whatever-else-it-was-that-they-gave me until pengsan! Ha ha ha ha…..

Both times during labor, I felt it was unfair that we, women, had to go through all this, so, you cannot blame me for fantasizing about men going through labor, ok? It’s only fantasy but shiok also! I envision lots of swearing, hence, this post is filled with them.

How Happy Are You With The Day You Look?

July 25th, 2007 by marshamaung

Echualy ah (actually), it’s all about how confident you are with yourself. How comfortable you are in your own skin? Can you walk out in shorts and slippers without hiding your face? No matter how beautiful one person is, there is usually one thing or two that that person would like to change. Tom Cruise could be wishing he was taller (echually, quite true also). Angelina Jolie could be wishing she had thinner lips (which is also quite true sometimes). So, no matter how beautiful a person is, he or she is bound to feel unhappy about something because everyone’s perception of beauty differs.

A blog-hopper’s prayer answered: Google Reader

July 25th, 2007 by marshamaung

I have quite a number of favorite blogs in the blogosphere and it’s sometimes a pain going from one blog to another trying to see if they have anything up. a handful of the bloggers posts something everyday or regularly, so, going from fave blog to another can be a pain especially when you’re in the middle of a busy work day. Usually, I add these sites into my favourites the conventional way…using Internet Explorer. Then I realized it was a pain in the arse when I switch to Mozzila Firefox and my favorites are not there. Then, one fine day, Google solved all my problems! *kissing Google’s ass in ernest*

Alpha Beta or Omega Male to go?

May 22nd, 2007 by marshamaung

I was reading CLEO magazine yesterday and there was an article asking us to think which kind of male attracts us and turns us on. Accordingly, there are three types of males. The Alpha Male, the dominant one who is always the leader and always in control. The Beta Male is the one who is very positive-minded, ambitious and might consider dethroning the Alpha Male. The Omega Male is the type of men who are subservient, mellow and just goes with the flow but romantic and is unafraid to express his feelings…basically, Omega type are usually considered the ‘followers’ or ‘losers’. The Alpha Male and the Omega Male are on total opposite ends of the spectrum while the Beta Male is in the middle.

I found myself asking myself that question. Hhhmmmm….looking back on all my past boyfriends, most of them were either Beta or Omega…never Alpha. In fact, if I were to choose one, I would say the Omega type of men attracts me more. I don’t like chatterboxes, people who likes to dominate and be in control. I prefer mellow type of men with deep emotional control instead. I like my men to be a little shy but bolder behind closed doors. Most of the men I’ve dated in the past seem to be Beta or Omega, you know. Don’t know why. Maybe it’s because I am a little Alpha….they say opposite attract mah, rite or not.

What a Crab-by Affair

March 8th, 2007 by marshamaung

Taking
the kids out for dinner has always been an ordeal. It’s already so much
torture taking two of them out, imagine the kind of torment we had to
go through when all SIX grandchildren attended the same dinner in a
restaurant filled with romping, stomping waiters and waitresses
balancing boiling food on as many limbs as possible. So, the rule is
that they can ‘explore’ the restaurant but they’re not allowed to run
around.

20070308-1.jpg

But did it work? Nope. Not a nip, not a second, not a minute it
worked. So, parents continue to stretch their field of vision and hike
up their hearing frequency for screams, shouts, hollers from angry
waiters and waitresses….all night long. It’s no fun eating with that
kind of mood. I think when these dinners are meant for parents and kids
to lose weight and eat very little. The only people who will ever gain
weight from attending these dinners are the ones who didn’t have
children.

20070308-5.jpg

But the good thing was that this restaurant called
“Pantai-something’ located in the deep corners of Kampung Kayu Ara not
only served good Chinese food (in Malay Kampung!) but the aquariums of
soon-to-be-victims were displayed for all to see. This, if you’re a
foreigner, is quite common in some Chinese restaurants in Malaysia.

20070308-6.jpg

20070308-7.jpg

Thankfully, these aquariums provide endless fun for the kids too.
They are so awed with the ease of which the waiters (read: heroes or
captors) catch the crabs. In one swipe and off to the wok you go!

20070308-3.jpg

The food was delicious! Loved almost all the dishes (not as if I ate
a lot but a bite here and there also I can tell). But I was shocked at
the wide variety of crabs they had in the place. Sadly (and luckily) we
didn’t have any crabs that night.

20070308-2.jpg

The adults had a fine time testing out bottle after bottle of wine,
the kids had a swell time chasing each other around dodging waiters and
mothers, I had a fine time peeling prawns, cutting vegetables,
screaming for kids to come eat, hunting down children, saying ‘no’,
shaking my index finger at their antics, almost tripping over at the
stairs and trying to salvage as many drops of wine I am given as
possible.

20070308-4.jpg

Can’t say it was a lost cause….the kids had a HOT and sweaty
night…and we didn’t Kidzsports for that. And…sigh…at least some of us
had the chance to eat in peace.

Sniffing expedition

March 7th, 2007 by marshamaung

Urgh! I can stand pain, I can stand mess. I can stand dirt too…but there’s one thing I can’t stand….smell!!!! Gawd, something smells in the house and I’ve been sniffing around and cleaning up, mopping and wiping for the past 2+ hours and I cannot, for the life of me, identify the source! EGAD!!

Someone…please rip my toe nails off!

To me, if something smells bad, it needs to be eliminated. So, before I go to bed, I just wanna say…..when I get back from Hong Kong, I hope my home won’t smell like a public toilet!!!!!

Urgh!!!!! This is really annoying me!
